MWC 2023 first Time in a Baltic State?

For the Masters World Cup 2023 WMA received a preliminary bid from the very experienced organizing committee of Club Tartu Maraton, Estonia. This would be the first time a MWC event to be held in a Baltic State.

While Tartu is the Capital of South Estonia, Otepää, only 40 k away from Tartu, is known as the winter capital of Estonia.  Otepää is a great ski resort for cross-country and downhill skiing as well as snowboarding and snowtubing. The unique scenery around Otepää offers excellent possibilities for training and competitions. National  and international competitions are organized for various sports, such as skiing, Nordic combined, swimming, triathlon, running, cyling and orienteering.

Final Decision about Bid in Fall 2020

The organizing committee is delighted to host the Masters World Cup at the Tehvandi Sports Center, the largest and internationally renowned competition and trainings center in Estonia. Established in 1978, it is now a perfect facility for skiers, biathletes, Nordic combined athletes and ski jumpers.

In wintertime, there are illuminated, marked and well maintained training and competition tracks for classic and free technique. Tehvandi is also the start venue for Tartu Ski Marathon, a very well introduced event within World Loppet organization.

In winter 2020 an inspection will be made by members of WMA Board to check all facilities and tracks.

Final bid is expected until August 2020 and a decision about the application will take place at Annual meeting in fall 2020 in Les Saisies/FRA, the site of MWC 2022.
