The program the Presidency and National Directors of WMA faced during their stay in Syktyvkar/RUS from October 2-6, 2013 was quite extensive. Main reason of the visit, however, was the site inspection in Syktyvkar, venue of Masters World Cup 2015. After Krasnogorsk, near Moscow, in 2015 a Masters World Cup will be held now second time in Russia.
The delegates could convince themselves that the organizers from the Republic of Komi are experienced and competent hosts of the event. Final dates were fixed for March 11-21, 2015. Syktyvkar can be reached by airplane either via St. Petersburg or Moscow. Visit homepage www.mwc2015.ru/en.
Reception of the Delegates through Mayor Ivan Pozdeyev
Besides the Masters World Cup 2015 Annual Meeting of WMA was the other main topic. President Thomas Heckmann (GER) welcomed delegates from 20 nations. He thanked the members of the organizing committee of Syktyvkar for the perfect organization of the event and the warmth and great hospitality extended to the National Directors and Presidency of WMA.
Dr. Georg Wörter (President) and Stefan Niedermoser (General Secretary) represented the Organizing Committee from Pillerseetal, Tirol (AUT). They gave a summarized update on the preparation work for the 34th Masters World Cup. After Seefeld and Mariazell Pillerseetal with its 5 communes St. Ulrich, Waidring, Fieberbrunn, Hochfilzen and St. Jakob is the 3rd venue of a MWC. For details see report under "News". Registration of participants is open.
It was not easy for the WMA members to decide for one or the other Finnish bidder for the Masters World Cup 2016: Rovaniemi respectively Vuokatti. The decision in favour of Vuokatti turned out to be extremely close. Main reason might have been the fact that Rovaniemi hosted the Masters World Cup already in 2007.
President Thomas Heckmann informed about the two applications from France and Switzerland for the year 2017. A decision between Klosters and Le Feclaz has to be made by the National Directors in Vuokatti in fall 2014 during Annual Meeting of WMA. Both countries organized only once a Masters World Cup.
John Downing, National Director of USA, introduced Minneapolis/MN as potential candidate for MWC 2018.
WMA appreciated very much Slovenia's interest to join the association. Janez Slabe from Ljubljana became proposed as National Director and the delegates nominated him unanimously.
Siegfried Stummer, long-term serving National Director for Austria, announced his resignation per the end of ski saison 2013/14. He is fully prepared to represent the Austrian Masters at the Masters World Cup in Pillerseetal. All entries of the Austrian athletes have to be sent to him.
Last topic on the agenda was the election of the Presidency. Thomas Heckmann became re-elected as President for further 4 years. Klaus Pleyer (SUI) - for 2 years – and Maia Tchernenkaia (RUS) – for 4 years - were confirmed in their functions as Vice Presidents. A close decision was the election of the 3rd Vice President. Newly proposed Georg Wörter became elected with a very narrow majority (1 vote) versus Rolf Hammar. Elisabeth Heckmann agreed to work as treasurer only for a further period of 2 years. She became unanimously confirmed. For her work as secretary since more than 20 years National Directors from Germany, Estonia, Kazakhstan and Russia thanked Elisabeth Heckmann in words and with presents. A very special honour she received through the awarding of an honorary membership in RASU (Russian Amateur Ski Union).
